The Festival

Once again its time to meet for one of Sweden’s nicest festivals. A great experience for young and old.

Where people of all ages and cultures get together for 3 days of wonderful music, workshops and theatre. The festival is renown for being a great place for families.

Great food and most important of all a wonderful atmosphere at what must be one of the most beautiful settings for a festival. A natural amphitheatre in the pine forests of northern Sweden with a backdrop over the Ångermanland river.

We have 2 stages with music alternating continually over the festival period. There are course, seminars, workshops , a circus tent and so much more. Come and join us and have a great time!

How it started

Urkult Festival, or Festival at Nämforsen which was the original name, began over a cup of coffee at the kitchen table. Mia Tejle and Ken Day, dedicated music enthusiasts had an idea which just grew and grew. That idea is now the 16th Urkult Festival

The Festival at full moon

The venue, situated above the ancient carvings at Nämforsen rapids, was chosen, and the first festival took place in August 1995. When darkness comes, a full moon and with open fires, the festival area becomes a beautiful, eco friendly and welcoming place. Originally the festival always opened at the full moon, but even today the opening ceremony or “eldnatten” with dance, singing, drums and fire is a spectacle that’s not to be missed.

The convivial host

Urkult festival has survived thanks to a number of enthusiasts who for years have worked hard to develop and bring the festival to the large number of visitors, who now return to enjoy our festival year after year. In 2008 Urkult was awarded first prize “The Convivial host” in the events category
