A folk festival for everyone
Urkult welcomes both new and old friends from near and far to Näsåker, to a festival whose guiding vision has always been to create cultural encounters across boundaries in a spirit of peace, love, inclusion, and understanding.
Together, we build bridges and tear down walls to the rhythms of music beneath the moonlit sky. High above the mighty rapids, melodies from many musical traditions fill the air while theatre, curious happenings, and poetry spark the imagination. This is a festival for the whole family, where children can enjoy performances, storytelling, and adventures of their very own.
Gathered around the warmth of the fires and surrounded by the aromas of our organic food stalls, we once again come together to celebrate music, joy, and community in a magical place where people have gathered for thousands of years.
THOUSANDS OF YEARS LATER, THE FIRES ARE LIT ONCE MORE
The Night of Fire is Urkult’s opening ceremony. Thousands of people gather on the steep hillside overlooking the main stage and its dance floor. Close, close together, we meet to create memories in a place where people have gathered since time immemorial. The Night of Fire connects past, present, and future. It is a call, in the name of solidarity, to remember that we are all one and that together we can choose a path of care. For one another and for the natural world that sustains us. It symbolises a possibility: to let the fire carry both the memory of our origins and our hope for the future. A hope for peace, loving togetherness, and compassion.

THE CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL
At Urkult, children are at the heart of the festival. Here, they are invited to take part in the great adventure. They are the ones who will grow up, return year after year, become Ungkultare - the younger generation of Urkult festival-goers, become adult Urkultare, carry memories forward, and leave their mark on the young minds that follow. These are the small seeds that, we hope, will grow and help create a better world.
At Urspel, the festival’s own area for children, young and old alike can climb and play, relax and sing, run free, and make new friends. A world of adventure waiting to be explored.
On the lawn outside the Hembygdsgården, you'll find the big blue circus tent. Here you'll discover theatre performances, storytelling, and music. As the tent entrance closes and the performance begins, the audience is transported into a world of imagination, wonder and magic. Who would want to miss that?

Environmental Work
At Urkult, we strive to create a festival that leaves as little negative impact on the environment as possible. With thousands of people gathering in the same place, it's a challenge we can't meet on our own. We need your help too. Together, we can make a difference.
All food vendors at the festival are required to use organic ingredients, and we actively help connect them with local producers to increase the use of locally sourced food. Organic farming avoids synthetic pesticides, helping to keep our soil and waterways healthier. Choosing local food also means shorter transport distances and supports a thriving countryside.
Become a volunteer!
Every year, more than 600 volunteers help make Urkult possible. It is thanks to their dedication, energy, and enthusiasm that the festival exists and continues to thrive. Being a volunteer at Urkult is often intense, exciting, and rewarding. You'll meet people from near and far, become part of a unique community, and perhaps even discover talents you never knew you had.
