Nomfusi was born in the township KwaZakhele in Eastern Cape Province. She grew up with a single mother and an absent father who served a long prison sentence. By keeping her mother company when visiting the medicine woman for weekly Sangoma rituals –where song and dance was an important element – she got the inspiration that made her the international success that she is today.
Nomfusi varies different music styles such as afropop, afrosoul, gospel and ballades with maskandi-guitars and dancing township rhythms. Through her creativity she depicts the vulnerable situation that it is to grow up in South Africas townships, but sings also about a hopeful future where her own choices and solidarity is of great significance. A small woman with a powerful voice and a live performance that is pure dynamite.
