With inventive vocal harmonies and an treasure trove of banjos, bottles, squeezeboxes and horns, three multi-instrumentalists have taken on the task of reinterpreting Tom Waits’ music. At the intersection of tragedy and comedy VKB create a seductive and adventurous sound, reflecting the band’s motley background: a daughter of a medicine man and a vaudeville actress, a business career dropout, and an orphan in a carnival troupe. The name, VKB, comes from a Woody Allen film about the relationship between three women and a man – a reference to the trio and their love of Waits’ music. Here’s a strong sisterhood as well; VKB strive to show the influence of co-author Kathleen Brennan, Tom Waits’ wife, in their interpretations.
