Tarabband

Tarabband

Tarabband is a cross-cultural musical experience. Their music takes off from Malmö, travels via Paris and the Mediterranean to Cairo and Baghdad and creates the band’s fantastic palette of compositions and sound. The group’s singer Nadin Al khalidi fled Iraq in 2001. Her lyrics fuse political and social topics with questions of identity, survival and love. The songs convey a constant striving for peace and tolerance between different cultures. Nadin shares both her own and others’ stories and experiences of war. It also paves the way for Tarabband’s younger Arabic-speaking audience to relate and connect with Nadin’s lyrics in a way that is relevant with the current challenges young people are facing in the Middle East. Whether Iraqi, Egyptian or Swedish, Nadin celebrates her triple identity as the important cultural richness it entails.
